All’universita’ e’ tutto
bellissimo.
E buon
senso. E algoritmi.
Perche’ alla fine dei giochi,
tutti questi numeri devono semplicemente far funzionare cose.
Si, gli ingegneri non
inventano nulla, applicano.
Dopo i primi tre giorni (forse
vuole pazienza e tanta tanta intelligenza. (Se sei stupido non ci provare
neanche).
Bisogna capire come porsi,
Dimenticatevi comfort zone, dimenticatevi
di pensare di sapere cosa fare e come farlo.
Sedetevi. Ascoltate. Ed imparate.

At university everything is
beautiful.
I remember a minimal
interaction with people.
There was just me, my
notebook, my computer, my pencil, my rubber and a lot of numbers.
Numbers for everything.
Number for the efficiency of the workers, numbers for how many pallets can
stand on a shelf of a warehouse, numbers for how many spare parts you have to
buy… numbers!.
And common sense. And
algorithms.
Because at the end of the
games, all these numbers simply have to make things work.
Yes, engineers do not invent
anything, they apply rules and make things work.
Then one day it happens… you find
a job.
After the first three days
(maybe after a year or two but let me say just three days in order to be cool)
I realised that all those beautiful numbers, my beloved ones, are not useful at all.
Literally, I could stick them
in the ass.
Every of them.
Because there's a very
important algorithm that did not really come into my head during my time at
university: you do not work with numbers ... you work with people ... and
people are limited.
And this is the key to
everything.
Whether you are building a
machine, or a maintenance plan for machines that make the cans from the Coca Cola
or improving the handling of the goods in the warehouse or building an app
from scratch.
Whether you're working with:
the last one who joined the team or the CEO of Google America.
All are people.
It does not take only numbers
... it takes patience and a lot of intelligence. (If you're stupid do not try
it either).
We need to understand how to talk
to them, how to deal with problems (if you want to try to solve them) and how
to be trusted and trust them. And work together.
Forget comfort zones, forget thinking
you know what to do and how to do it.
Just Sit Down. Listen. And Learn.
